Frequently Asked Questions
Do I get seeds with my membership?

We don't include seeds with Goodness membership, because getting seeds is easy. Growing a year round supply of your own groceries isn’t so easy, and this is the problem we’re here to solve.

How much space do I need?

If you want to break up with the supermarket and grow your own food you'll need 20 sq. metres of plantable garden space for every adult you plan to feed. This may sound like a lot, and it is, compared to a hobby garden. The fact is, if you want to harvest a meaningful amount of food year round, you need to grow a lot of veggies. We've designed our gardens to deliver an exciting and abundant supply of food. We've assumed that your garden is your sole source of veggies, and that 20% of your plants won't make it to maturity.

If you're a little daunted by the size of garden you need to grow, consider these other options;

  • Start small. If you don’t have the time, space or resources to grow all your own food, make a start by growing some of your food. So, instead of growing a 40m garden for two adults, start by growing a 20m garden for one. Our plans can be applied to (almost) any size garden. As long as it's at least 20m, and if it's larger, that it's scaled up in 10m blocks e.g. 20, 30, 40 metres. If you have questions about how this can work for you please contact us, we're here to help.
  • Share the work. Consider creating a ‘goodness group’ by inviting friends and neighbours to grow with you. This way you can share the space, cost, work and harvest. It’s a fun way of producing more food with less energy, and it’s easy to do as our plans are scalable by design.
  • Think outside the box. If land is an issue - swap space for sustenance! A lot of property owners are happy to share space in exchange for a supply of fresh organic veggies. Ask your local community if anyone is willing to swap, or contact us and see if there is a goodness group that you can join in your area.
What will I grow?
We grow our gardens by veggie types, each in their own section of garden. These are separated into 'eating' and 'storage' gardens to make it easier to plant, harvest and rotate crops. Your Ultimate Edible Garden will be set up in five sections;

Eating Gardens; are your ‘fast food’ gardens - for everyday eating.
  • Roots & Shoots. Carrot, Radish, Beetroot, Bean-Pole, Pea-Sugar Snap.
  • Fast Favourites. Zucchini, Bean-Bush, Tomato-Slicing/Salad, Kohlrabi, Broccoli-Sprouting, Pea-Sugar Snap.
  • Leafy Greens. Onion-Spring, Celery, Kale, Beet, Tatsoi, Lettuce, Cucumber, Pak Choi, Pea-Sugar Snap.

Storage Gardens; are your ‘slow food’ gardens for seasonal storage.
  • Seasons Staples. Pumpkin, Corn, Tomato-Sauce, Cauliflower, Cabbage, Broccoli, Cabbage-Savoy, Pea-Shelling.
  • Storage Crops. Potato-Early/Second Early/Main, Squash, Onion, Garlic, Pea-Shelling.
Does it matter where I live?
We've hand picked veggies that can thrive anywhere in New Zealand. And we've cross referenced each one across all regions. To be sure that wherever in our beautiful country you live, you can grow our plan and enjoy a year round harvest.

If you live outside of New Zealand our Ultimate Edible Garden may not work for you. Please contact us before you join to see if our plans are suitable for your location.
